Nearly 50 years in east Alabama, a surname going back to Vikings invading Scotland, and finally too much religious fundamentalism coupled to reactionary radicalism motivates me. I'll share (rarely as of late) my ideas on politics, learning, ... My clan supposedly uses "Peace ... or War!" Maybe those genes compel me to join issue? (Propservralism = PRogressivism + pOPulism + conSERVatism + libeRAL + pragmatISM) Respectfully, John Gunn

Outlanders of the Day ~ Media Merchants of Trivia
Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stone serves up Merchants of Trivia: Why do the media insist on reducing one of the most exciting presidential primary seasons in American history to a simple horse race? and I give it a big thumbs up. Why indeed? It is complex but involves a combination of corporate ownership, stupid citizens, profits in the face of tight margins, manipulation of message, herd mentality, laziness of the public and press, ... yet even all that can't explain why media coverage of this primary race, the most wide open in years, has been so devoid of policy discussions and comparisons. If not in 2008, will this ever occur? P/W
