Dealing and Wheeling from the Big Johnson

Roy Johnson of Alabama JuCo infamy was the consummate politician and the fact that he was able to rise to lead the two year system as Chancellor is an indictment of the whole state. His hiring of Susan Whaley Salatto to head Southern Union State Community College has now been revealed by Desiree Hunter of the AP to have apparently been at least partly about power and protection. I questioned this hiring a good year and a half ago. That Southern Union academics/employees had their papers and desks searched at night is outrageous. That Big Johnson threatened them is likewise so. There are some high quality folks in the school that could fix this mess and if they aren't inclined to take the lead here's hoping the Board will bring in top drawer talent to get The Onion back on track.
