Highlander of the Day ~ George McGovern

From way back in 1944 we have George and wife Eleanor McGovern pictured to the left. He of course went on to pilot thirty five combat missions over Europe in the B-24 Liberator. He came home to South Dakota, wound up in public service, and was I think falsely blamed (another post for another day) for 1972's throttling by Tricky Dick. Not Dick Cheney but rather Dick Nixon for the unaware yet Dead Eye Dick has gone after this actual military hero as well. The contrast between Dubyah and Dick's record of service with former Senator McGovern is indeed a fertile area as well that I'll pass on for now.

Today Senator McGovern appears in the WaPo's OpEds (can't believe Fred Hiatt and crew let it in frankly) with Why I Believe Bush Must Go: Nixon Was Bad. These Guys Are Worse. His, I ought to use "their" although Eleanor died in early 2007, McGovern Center is another reason for a tip of the tam. P/W
