Captain Plaid - Progressivism meets an ornery Scot
Forty plus years in rural East Alabama, a surname going back to Vikings invading Scotland, and finally too much conservatism and fundamentalism motivates me. I'll share my ideas on politics, law, learning, our earth, spirituality, tolerance ... I'll always look toward "home" and will likely one day be back in the South. My clan supposedly uses "Peace ... or War!" Maybe those genes compel me to join issue in politics and the "culture war"? Thanks, John Gunn

Educated at tolerable public schools and the finest non-ABA accredited yet Church of Christ affiliated part-time/night law school in the entire state of Alabama, I've managed to play lawyer, teacher, student, farm hand, activist/organizer, infantry soldier ... A recovering Southern Baptist, I'm almost a Buddhist Cowboy these days although a variant of Vonnegut's Bokononism might work. My dog tags read Unitarian Universalist. I suppose secular humanist might work as well as anything. Running from the law for nine plus years, I first did GTA work at Auburn and then spent the next five years with hormonal teenagers. Supressing my Scots enough to not strangle any kids, and indeed I learned much about patience and kindness, I taught various Social Studies preps in west Georgia public schools. Frustrated with bumbling bureaucrats and pushover parents and ..., plus knowing the 2006 elections were critical, I set aside the chalk to work a Congressional campaign.
